FAQ

UPDATE: The exciting news is here!

I’m excited to finally share that I’m joining Adobe! My brushes are now exclusively available to Creative Cloud members and I’ll be working closely with the Photoshop team to continue working on brushes. You can read more about it on the Photoshop blog, here.

When can we expect your brushes to become available again?

My brushes are now exclusively available to Creative Cloud members and won’t be available anywhere else.

I made a brush purchase after September 20th, 2017 and I waited too long to download the brushes. How can I get a refund?

No. If you purchased brushes from KyleBrush.com, I’m not able to provide a refund. As a Creative Cloud member, you’ll now benefit from exclusive access to my brushes at no extra cost.

As an existing KyleBrush.com customer, will there be a change in how I purchase additional brushes?

Yes. The only way to access additional brushes is through a paid Creative Cloud membership.

I’m not a Creative Cloud member but I have CS5/CS6 and I want to buy Kyle’s brushes anyway – why can’t I anymore?

The only way to access my brushes is with a Creative Cloud membership. This is a really exciting opportunity for me to provide brushes to the broad Creative Cloud community and allows me to leverage the cloud so that I can make new brushes and improvements to brushes available immediately. And as a Creative Cloud member, you benefit from added resources and updates like these brushes.

Will KyleBrush.com be closed soon? Can I still purchase brushes from his website?

KyleBrush.com will be closed soon and you will not be able to purchase brushes from my website. My brushes are exclusively available to Creative Cloud members using the MAX release of Photoshop CC. Paid members will be able to access brushes via the Photoshop brush menu option.

However, you will still retain access to your previously purchased brushes.

What is the future road map for Kylebrushes?

I’ll continue to work on brushes and will make them available to Creative Cloud members once they’re ready.

Will Kyle’s brushes come free with my subscription? Do I have to pay for the brushes?

No, you don’t have to pay for the brushes. As a Creative Cloud member, you benefit from added resources and updates like these brushes, at no extra cost.

I have sent inquiries for specific questions and I am not getting a response. I need support A.S.A.P.!

You can contact Adobe support here for help.

I lost previously downloaded files- how can I retrieve them? My brushes are not working- who can help me?

If you’re on CS5 or CS6, we are unable to provide you with your previously purchased brushes. However, if you’re a Creative Cloud member you can easily download the brushes again. You can access brushes in the MAX release of Photoshop via the Photoshop brush menu option.

What if I lose my brush install files?

If you’re on CS5 or CS6, we are unable to provide you with your previously purchased brushes. However, if you’re a Creative Cloud member you can easily download the brushes again. You can access brushes in the MAX release of Photoshop via the Photoshop brush menu option.

My previous purchase is not visible in my Gumroad Library. What do I do?

I am no longer offering the brushes through Gumroad; this also means previously downloaded files can no longer be retrievable.

My brushes will now only be available to Creative Cloud members, accessed through the release of Photoshop CC announced at MAX, through the Photoshop brush menu option.

Will the brushes work in Adobe Photoshop Sketch on my iPad?

Yes! To be exact, in Photoshop, ABR files have been enhanced to work with any brush-enabled tool: erasers, smudge tools, Mixer brushes, and pencil tools. For Sketch, only brush files can be imported, effectively (not mixer brushes, smudge tools, erasers, or aliased pencils).

You can find more information about using brushes in Photoshop sketch here. For any questions regarding use of Kyle’s Photoshop brushes in Adobe Sketch, please contact [email protected]

Will the brushes work in Photoshop CS4?

No, my brush sets are designed for Photoshop CS5 or higher (CS6, CC). This means they will work in Photoshop CS5, CS6, and all CC (Creative Cloud) versions. They will not work in Affinity, SAI, Gimp, Clip Studio, etc. – they are designed for Photoshop.

I use Ps CS5/ CS6, will the brushes in .abr format work with my product?

Yes. Brushes will work, but you won’t get any support for these versions. CS5 and CS6 support are through forums only.

How do I load the brushes in Photoshop?

For help loading brushes into Photoshop, you can follow these instructions.

Can I see brush strokes previews (cheat sheets)?

Yes! Check out these links below.

How do I organize the brushes?

With the October 2017 release of Photoshop CC, you can now more easily organize your brushes in Photoshop. You can drag and drop to reorder, create folders and sub-folders, scale the brush stroke preview, toggle new view modes, and save brush presets with opacity, flow, blend mode, and color.

What version of Photoshop do I need if I want to use your brushes?

All of my brushes, with the exception of the Tilterrific series (there are only three of these, and they are packaged separately, so they do not cause any trouble!) work with Photoshop CS5, CS6, and all Creative Cloud versions.

Will your brushes work with Gimp or any other software that is NOT Photoshop?

No – my brush sets are not .abr files, and they are therefore only designed for use in Photoshop.

I loaded the brushes, and none of them look like the cheat sheets! They all look flat or wrong …

Your Photoshop preferences are causing trouble here- you can easily reset them by following these instructions.

My brushes suddenly stopped working properly! Everything looks weird, or Photoshop forgets what I had loaded the last time I used the application.

Can I share these brushes with my friends?

NO. My brushes are now exclusively available to Creative Cloud members as part of your paid membership. Your friends must have their own Creative Cloud memberships to access and use my brushes.

For brushes purchased previously, you purchased a single-user license when you purchased my brushes. Your friends must have purchased their own brush sets.

May I use your brushes for commercial work?

Absolutely – I encourage it! However, you may not resell or distribute the brushes themselves.

Why are your brush sets saved as .tpl files, instead of .abr files?

Tool presets (.tpl extension) are superior to brush presets (.abr files) for advanced custom brushes because a tool preset will consistently retain settings like brush flow, brush opacity, brush mode, and texture.

Help! I can’t see all of the brushes in my list, such as the Oil brushes, Oil Pastels, Blenders or Tilterrific pencils!

Be sure that the ‘Show All Tool Presets’ option has a check next to it. You will find this option in your Tools menu (the same little gear icon you used to access the ‘Load Tool Presets’ option when you first loaded the brushes).

How do you make brushes that feel so much like natural media?!

This is an ancient Webster family secret – I am sorry, but I cannot tell.
